Fabric Arts
BEGINNERS WEAVING: 4-HARNESS LOOM This course will introduce you to the 4-harness loom. Learn the parts of the loom and what their functions are, read drafts and learn cloth structure. You will be able to warp the loom by yourself and weave several small projects. TEMARI BALLS WORKSHOP According to Japanese culture the gift of temari represents a wish for good luck. You will begin with a core wrapped with yarn and thread, divide it into measured and marked sections and stitch or embroider it with colourful yarns. Some knowledge of embroidery can be helpful, but not a must. Please bring sharp scissors, sewing needle with a large eye and sharp point, any threads you’d like to use, paper and a pencil. SIMPLE STITCHING FOR KIDS Learn the basics of hand stitching and embroidery. 1st we will learn the basic stitches and then we will work on a small project together. KUMIHIMO BRAIDING WORKSHOP Kumihimo is a Japanese braid-making technique. You will make round, flat and time permitting square braids. With these skills you will be able to make items like key chains, lanyards and bracelets. Class kit includes Kumihimo braiding disk, patterns and yarns needed to make the braids. Please bring small scissors, large darning needle, fine sewing needle, spool of thread, some Frey Check (available at Fabric stores), paper and a pencil.
